THE STORY BEHIND BARAKAH
BARAKAH was born from a demand for authentic representation. Founded by Mustafa, a Canadian designer with Afghan roots, the brand’s identity is shaped by a collision of influences, from the richness of early Islamic history to his own heritage, and the modern day resilience of the Palestinian people.
Before the brand had a name, it was a ground up hustle. Mustafa’s entrance into fashion started in high school, driving hours around Toronto to buy, restore, and flip trending streetwear. Eventually, selling other people's garments wasn't enough. He bought a sewing machine and spent late nights teaching himself how to cut, dye, and tailor denim entirely by hand.
During this process, he realized the market for young Muslims in the West was broken. It was saturated with cliché text prints and brands relying on religious sympathy to drive sales. Navigating the duality of Western streetwear culture and his Islamic roots, he saw an opportunity to disrupt the space. He didn't just want to make clothes; he wanted to solve real problems. The brand's signature Prayer Mat Jacket was born from a shared reality: young Muslims having to pray outside at school or work, using their own hoodies on the ground.
BARAKAH was built to bridge that gap. The goal was to build a label that competes with global streetwear heavyweights on pure quality and cut, while remaining uncompromising in its push toward the Deen.
Translating to "blessings" in Arabic, BARAKAH represents dignity. It is for the young Muslim who refuses to compromise on style to wear their identity. It is about the confidence to pray in public, the pride of our heritage, and looking undeniably good while doing it.
More than just fashion, BARAKAH is a platform. Whether it’s bringing awareness to the struggle in Gaza and the West Bank, or funding charity initiatives for the Ummah, it is a movement for the unapologetic Muslim.
